What you will learn and how it will benefit your clients
How to identify the underlying structures and patterns in your client’s thinking using 'logical levels' (environment, behaviour, capability, beliefs and values, identity)
Telling a client what to do re: lifestyle changes (behaviour) when they don't value their health or believe they can be healthy will not be successful. When you intervene at the appropriate level, when you are able to work with the clients’ beliefs and values you enable your clients to changeHow to coach your client rather than instruct; this will be a theme that runs throughout the entire training
Telling a client what do to (behaviour) is not empowering; most people are not receptive to 'shoulds' 'ought tos', 'need tos', 'musts' and 'have tos'. When you Coach your clients they will be enabled to take responsibility for their own health - they will move forwards in ways that work for themHow to establish rapport with your client and work at their pace
When you communicate more effectively and work at your clients pace they will feel you respect them and their current position; as a result they will be more receptive to your suggestions re lifestyle changesHow to help your client set a positive outcome frame – an essential element of goal setting which complements the more familiar SMART approach
Most clients tend to be focused on what they don't want, for example, 'I don’t want to be fat'. Sadly, because we get what we focus on, they get more of what they don't want. Focusing on what they do want, for example, 'I want to be slim', using this model, ensures they move towards their goals.
